Hua Hin and its surrounding area make one of the most beautiful, cultural and serene places to take a bike trip in Thailand. We start our tour at the famous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market before taking a long boat trip through local villages and plantations and a gentle bike trip through country back roads and tropical fruit plantations.

Day two is a cycle through Thailand’s largest National Park, Kaeng Krachan, and the opportunity to see Thailand’s beautiful landscape and wildlife. On day three we cycle through small villages to see local life in action and along the shoreline of Khao Kalok where the sea breeze is sure to help you work up an appetite for a hearty seaside lunch before we head back Hua Hin or Bangkok.

Seventy kilometers south-west of Bangkok the Mae Klong River spreads into a sprawling delta before reaching the Gulf of Thailand. This low-lying land is extremely fertile and over the years an extensive network of canals have been built to aid irrigation. We ride from the reservoir source of many of these canals as well as along them during our exploration of south-west part of Thailand. Mixing all different kinds of terrain and locations this trip is a great way to see and experience the other side of Thailand.

Day 1: is a great introduction to Thailand as we visit one of the more famous floating markets. After getting a chance to have a look around we head through the maze of canals, which make this such a fascinating area, to the start of the bike ride. The ride will take in many temples, plantations producing all manner of fruits through the back roads to our wonderful small hotel on the canal banks.

Day 2: we really get off the beaten track as we head further south and inland towards the border with Burma. This often missed area on the way to the more well known Hua Hin is a great place to cycle and relax as the roads and trails are virtually traffic free and the scenery is wonderful. Our hotel today is also a secluded hotel nestled deep into hills and provides a tranquil overnight repose.

Day 3: is an excellent ride taking in the Pranburi coast just south of Hua Hin. The ride will give you an insight as to the local industries that abound in this area. Our ride ends around lunchtime today and you can choose to stay in one of the many great hotels or resort in this area, we can transfer you to the more famous neighbour of Hua Hin or you can come back to Bangkok with the team that has supported you throughout the trip – the choice is yours!

Biking Condition: Good quality tarmac roads or dirt tracks over undulating terrain. Cycling Distance 94 kilometers Cycling Days 3 days Trip Profile We ride on small back roads with little traffic on paved roads. The terrain is undulating but there is always a support vehicle close by if any of the hills prove too taxing. This tour is suitable for anyone with minimum biking experience.

The trip is fully supported and your guide’s expert knowledge of the area and terrain means that you always know what is coming up in terms of distance and difficulty. This makes a tremendous difference, as does the constant supply of cold drinks and fresh fruit.

Suitability: This tour is suitable for riders with some biking experience. You can expect a fairly gentle ride each day with none of the distances being overly long. There are a few small hills, but these can be tackled by anyone with even a moderate amount of fitness. The emphasis on this tour is Thailand’s scenery off the beaten track.

Day to Day

B=Breakfast L=Lunch D=Dinner

Day 1: Bangkok – Ampawa We transfer out of Bangkok to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. After discovering the sights and sounds of the floating market, we embark on a long tail boat and cruise through a maze of canals cutting through local villages and various plantations. This eye-opening boat ride offers a glimpse of Thailand of old where local people are going about their daily life with the canal as the focal point. Arriving at Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram you can enjoy the history and beauty of the temple before we mount our bikes and start our ride. We cycle through coconut plantations and fruit orchards. Riding quiet back roads and jeep trails we stop to visit temples, including an unusual one, and appreciate the countryside. Depending on the season, you will see lychee, pomelo, guava and coconuts ripe for picking. Having enjoyed a delicious Thai lunch at a riverside restaurant, we continue cycling on picturesque trails through lush vegetation towards a former timber mill converted into a charming small hotel. Chotika Riverfront. Ride 32 km. (L, D)

Day 2: Ampawa – Kaeng Krachan After a leisurely breakfast we transfer for approx 1.5 hours to Kaeng Krachan National Park. Thailand’s largest national park, Kaeng Krachan is an excellent place for an adventurous day. We visit the park’s headquarters on the edge of a large reservoir and enjoy the views and cool breezes. We ride along the lake’s shoreline and across an impressive dam before heading inland along trails and quiet country roads. We will stop often in this tranquil area to take in the wonderful views and give you time to take photos. There are some small hills but nothing too strenuous or taxing. The ride will end at our very comfortable, secluded and beautiful resort beside the river set in wonderfully landscaped grounds. Here we have time for a swim or massage before we enjoy a great dinner at the hotel. Petchvarin Hotel. Ride 27 km. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Pranburi – Bangkok We start the day with a short transfer of approx 1.5 hours to our start point, to just outside Hua Hin. On this fascinating ride we pass through fishing villages, past schools, temples and many coconut plantations. We pass along by the coast to Khao Kalok which is a large rock that separates one bay from another and an excellent view point. The ride will end at a local restaurant overlooking the sea and where we will have lunch and a chance to rest before heading to a local resort, back to Hua Hin or Bangkok. Ride 25 km. (B, L) Nuts & Bolts Bikes:

Bike hire is included in the tour. The bikes are well-known makes of hybrid or mountain bikes (depending on the tour) with lightweight alloy frames, 24- to 27-speed gearing, v-brakes and Shimano components and front suspension.

The vehicle follow us the whole time and it is very easy to get bikes on and off, so you can rest when you are tired and cycle whenever you feel like it.

The Nitty Gritty

Arriving and Departing: This tour starts in Bangkok, Thailand and ends in either Pranburi, Hua Hin or Bangkok, depending on where you want to stay. International and domestic flights to and from there are not included in the tour price. Please contact info@pickabooclub.com for advice before arranging flights for the best arrival and departure times.

Passports and Visas: All nationalities require a passport for entry into Thailand. Please ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from date of entry. If staying less than 30 days then a visa in advance is not required by European, North American, Australian and many other nationalities. You will need to show proof of an onward flight out of Thailand to be eligible for the visa on arrival. This is strictly enforced.

Subject to Change In remote destinations abnormal conditions can prevail at any time, and all adventurous holidays can therefore be subject to unexpected change and we will do our best to adhere to the original itinerary and cannot be held responsible for any last minute changes; in order to enjoy them you should be prepared to be flexible when necessary.

Health: We recommend that you visit a travel medical doctor and ask about the following vaccinations: typhoid, polio, tetanus and hepatitis A. A certificate for Yellow Fever is required when arriving from an infected area within six days.

Weather: Thailand has a tropical climate with fairly high humidity. There are three seasons: from March to June it is hot and dry, with temperatures between 27 and 40C, with night temperatures in the 20s. The rainy season is from July to October, but temperatures are slightly lower, because of the effect of the rain. During this time it will not rain continuously, but in sharp bursts, and the sun can come out quickly. The cooler season is from October to February, with average temperatures between 20 and 30C.

Food: Meals are included as per the itinerary where B = breakfast, L = lunch, D = dinner. Most meals are local and feature noodles, rice, curries and soups. Any special dietary requirements can also be catered for as well. Please let us know at the time of booking.

Drink: Keeping you completely hydrated is a job we take very seriously. Cold water, some energy-restoring local fruit and soft drinks are included in the tour price. Beer is freely available everywhere, but is NOT included in the price.

Extra Expenses: We recommend that you tuck away a few extra dollars, perhaps US$20, for incidentals. Money: The Thai currency is the baht. ATMs, which are abundant, are the easiest ways to get Thai baht. Have a supply of US dollars in cash on hand, just in case your card doesn’t work. Banks or the more rare private moneychangers offer the best foreign-exchange rates. Credit cards are accepted in big cities and resort hotels but you’ll need baht for family-run guesthouses or restaurants.
